White Mountains Travel Tips

The most popular time to visit the White Mountains is from Memorial Day to mid-October when temperatures are mild and the attractions are open. Summer (mid-June to Labor Day) is especially popular as more families can travel during the school vacation.

Foliage Season: Early September tends to be a quieter time, while later September to mid-October is foliage time, when the spectacular blaze of fall color is at its height. Fall foliage is often the busiest time of the year, so reservations are always recommended. Winter in the white mountains is especially popular with skiers and snowmobilers: there are ten major downhill ski mountains, over a dozen touring centers and a statewide snowmobile trail network. Spring is brief, with warm days and cool nights, making for excellent sightseeing.

The temperatures in the summer generally range from 70's to mid-80's, in the daytime; nights are cooler, so a sweater or light jacket is generally needed. During spring and autumn, days generally range from 50's to 70's and nights from 30's to 50's.

Shopping in New Hampshire is tax-free. Retail centers featuring everything from New Hampshire-made crafts to designer fashions are found throughout the region.
