Memorial Day is the highly anticipated, unofficial
start to the summer season and many of New Hampshire's White Mountains
attractions are set to swing wide their doors welcoming visitors to this
popular New England vacation destination.
A small but dedicated group of antique snowmobile enthusiasts slowly but steadily climbed above treeline on the Mt. Washington Auto Road last weekend to commemorate the first snowmobile ascent in 1963.
A total of 42 skiers and riders registered and accepted the challenge to conquer over 100,000 vertical feet in a single day on Monday, March 11th to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation® of New Hampshire. Weather for the event was ideal for the field of male & female, young & old, and ski & snowboard participants to push themselves to complete the marathon alpine event. This year’s participants were able to collectively raise over $133,000 in pledge donations to set a new event record high donation amount.
Attitash Mountain Resort & Wildcat Mountain have been introducing winter enthusiasts to outdoor fun on the slopes since they began offering lift-serviced skiing and riding. This year, as a special offer to support the snow sport industries January Learn a Snow Sports Month promotion, both mountains invite “never-evers” to sign up for a free Learn2 first day three hour clinic, rental equipment and novice lift ticket package at either Attitash Mountain Resort or Wildcat Mountain during the week of January 12 – 18, 2013.
As Mt. Washington Valley landscapes transition into a whiter shade of trail, another pre-season of outdoor winter activity is well underway at Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center on Route 16 in Pinkham Notch. The timing is also perfect for the annual Nordic Warm Up Series, which begins on Tuesday, Dec. 11th.
Loon Mountain Resort, New England's most accessible mountain resort located in the heart of the White Mountains, will open for skiing and riding tomorrow, November 16, becoming one of the first ski areas in New Hampshire to open for the 2012-13 season.

On October 21, Conway Scenic Railroad marked the end of its 2012 Notch Train season with a special fundraising excursion. Hosted by the Mt. Washington Valley Kiwanis Club, the “Autumn Express” raised $8,000 that will benefit local children's charities that are supported by the club.

Nearly 8 million people from around the world will come to New Hampshire over the next three months to see the bright colors of fall and leave behind some green, according to state tourism officials. They will be greeted by the first of several new welcome signs unveiled by Gov. John Lynch and state tourism officials this morning. The new signs will feature the updated tourism logo, state motto and “Welcome” in both French and English.
