  Fall Foliage

Get Ready to Fall into Autumn in the White Mountains

Mountain nights are a little bit longer and little cooler than they were just a few short weeks ago, the little signs that the seasons are changing as summer winds up its mission and turns its days over to fall.

Already there are dots of color splashed across some of the hillsides, which is typical for this time of year. Throughout the month of September, the reds, golds, oranges and mauves will wash over the landscape with the dramatic peak coming sometime in early October.

While there is no precise science to predicting peak foliage - the day and the hour when a particular part of the region has reached its ultimate color - experience tells us that most intense colors in the White Mountains begin coming on roundabout the last week of September.

Along the way, those rich colors braid themselves over the countryside, becoming brighter with each passing day. Every year, millions of people come here to see the most beautiful, natural, spectacle in the world.

If you are thinking about spending some time in our neighborhood, it’s not too early to begin planning. As the fall foliage season advances, the hotels, motels and inns begin to fill up, so you’ll want to make sure you have your reservations.

There is plenty to do throughout autumn, from scenic drives that take in the panorama of fall and visiting small towns that greets the season with the humor of pumpkin people and scarecrow festivals, to taking a train or tram ride to the top of a mountain to view the utterly glorious land from on high.

Our friendly staff is waiting to help you begin planning your fall adventure in the White Mountains.
