The world-famous Pollyanna character says, “There’s always something to be glad about." Right here in Littleton, that optimism is reflected year-round in the cheerful Pollyanna bronze sculpture displayed on the Littleton Library lawn. Visitors from all over New England and well beyond stop by to have their picture taken to continue the Glad Wave tradition that has become popular for so many.
“Business owners and individuals are getting excited to welcome visitors to Littleton on Saturday, June 14th, with a variety of activities planned to help them find something to be glad about,” says Veronica Francis, owner of the GoLittleton Glad Shop.
Glad Day is a town-wide celebration filled with activities for everyone, including Lahout’s 5k Run/Walk, which will start and end on Union Street from 9 to 11 a.m.
From 11 to noon, the Glad Day Hat Decorating Party will be featured on the Littleton Library Lawn with special characters Pollyanna and Eleanor Porter. Locals and visitors can enjoy Lollipop the Clown, who will create beautiful balloon artistry from 11:30 am until 1 pm at the library. Everyone is welcome to be part of the Annual Group Photo at Noon at the Pollyanna Sculpture. At 12:30 pm, join the Pollyanna Promenade to the Community House to show off your Pollyanna hats!
The Littleton Community Center will be hosting a Strawberry Shortcake Festival with special guest Kathleen Bailey, author of the “A History Lover’s Guide to the White Mountains”. Kathleen will be signing her new book which features a chapter on Littleton!
Outside the center, the Friends of Remich Park will host lawn games from 1 to 3 which will be broadcasted live on North Country Community Radio WZNC-LP 99.9, hosted by the Littleton Chamber of Commerce.
Visitors can also enjoy the famous Marko the Magician from 1 to 2:30 at the center, who is sure to mystify, entertain, and make everyone laugh!
At 3:00 the fun continues with the popular Cupcake Challenge at Jack & Fin’s Patio with a cupcake eating challenge for all ages and appetites. The gladness continues to rock into the night with a concert at the Littleton Opera House at 8 pm. To round out the weekend, enjoy the classic Pollyanna Movie at the Jax Jr. Cinema on Sunday at 11 AM.
