Bretton Woods, NH — Bretton Woods is thrilled to announce a major capital improvement as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the ski experience for all guests. The Bethlehem Express Quad, a staple of the resort for over 35 years, will be replaced with the brand-new BEQ II lift, an advanced, four-person Leitner-Poma detachable quad.

The Bethlehem Express has been an integral part of Bretton Woods’ operations, offering guests both winter and summer access for over three decades. However, it is now time for the lift to retire and make way for this exciting upgrade.
The BEQ II will be constructed along the same general profile as the original lift, with 14 towers extending from the base area to Latitude 44. The new design will bring several improvements to the guest experience, including:
- More spacious base area: The bottom terminal of the BEQ II will be located slightly uphill from the Bethlehem’s base terminal, alleviating congestion and increasing space for guests in the base area. Additionally, this will provide a smoother and more accessible transition into the Skyway Gondola and Zephyr Express.
- Improved beginner experience: The top terminal will be moved downhill to create a gentler slope after unloading, making it easier for beginners.
- Increased lift capacity: The new BEQ II lift can transport 1,800 people per hour, helping to reduce wait times and improve slope access.
- Expanded terrain options: A new black diamond glade between Upper Swoop and Upper Express adds an exciting challenge for advanced skiers and snowboarders.
Construction Timeline & Expectations:
Construction of the new BEQ II is underway and scheduled to be completed by October 2025, in time for the 2025–2026 ski season. Bretton Woods is working diligently to minimize disruptions to normal resort operations. Guests can expect improvements that will significantly enhance the resort experience during both the winter and summer months.
“We are beyond excited to introduce the BEQ II as part of our ongoing commitment to providing consistent, reliable, and safe lift operations for our guests,” said Alexa Bernotavicz, Assistant Director of Ski Operations at Bretton Woods. “This project marks a big step forward in our effort to elevate the skiing and snowboarding experience here at Bretton Woods.”
