Mt. Washington, New Hampshire – The Mount Washington Cog Railway will once again be running daily biodiesel excursions, with expanded weekend and holiday service, throughout the 2021-2022 winter season. And Santa Claus returns to the Cog Railway every weekend from November 26 through December 19, with treats and special gifts for all the good girls and boys– photos, too! Online reservations are strongly recommended– visit thecog.com for weekday, weekend and holiday schedules, tickets and much more.

With the summit closed for the season, the Cog’s primary winter terminal is Waumbek Station, located in an alpine meadow on the western face of the mountain at roughly 4000’. Waumbek features comfortable warming huts, a blazing fire pit, and complimentary snacks and hot refreshments for everyone. In clear weather, panoramic views to the west are simply spectacular. In mid-April, trains will climb higher to Skyline, at 5300’ (with a brief layover at Waumbek) until summit service resumes on April 30. An onboard Brakeman provides a fascinating narration on every trip.

At 2700’, Marshfield Base Station is the highest full-service, year-round facility on Mount Washington and the most convenient stepping-off point for all your winter recreation activities. A groomed extension from our parking lots links to an existing network of hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails and easy access to backcountry skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and winter hiking is all just steps away.

Open seven days a week, Marshfield features a food court with hot and cold snacks (including beer and wine), a convenience store, a gift shop, restrooms, and the free, interactive Cog Railway Museum.
