Milestones and Celebrations in 2018

The White Mountains region is steeped in history and is one of the reasons families visit year after year. We want to share with our visitors some historic milestones that are coming up in 2018 for some of the area’s Attractions, lodging properties, and shops. Come celebrate with us!

White Mountain National Forest

Established in 1918 under the Weeks Act, the White Mountain National Forest celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Our 750,000 acres of National Forest is home to incredible state parks, amazing hiking, and abundant wildlife. While you're here exploring all the WMNF has to offer, make a stop in Plymouth to the Museum of the White Mountains to see their exhibit: "The People’s Forest: a Centennial Celebration of the White Mountain National Forest", which will be on display from May 16-September 12.

Clark’s Trading Post

This iconic stop in the White Mountains will be celebrating 90 years of entertaining families, and the White Mountain Central Railroad (which takes you into Wolfman territory) is celebrating 60 years. Continue to check their event calendar, as special events will be held throughout their 2081 season. The fun kicks off on June 9 when the Rhythm & Bones Society presents a concert by their renowned bone-players.

Wildcat Mountain

This kitty turns 60 this year! Since 1958, Wildcat has been offering incredible skiing with spectacular views. Head to Wildcat to get a picture in the 60th anniversary gondola for a chance to win 2 lift tickets for the 2018-2019 season.

Cranmore Mountain

Cranmore is 80 years young this year and definitely knows how to party! They will continue offering savings on ski tickets through the rest of the ski season and stay tuned for all of the summit fun happening this summer!

The Pierce Arrow at the Mount Washington Auto Road

2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the historic Pierce Arrow. These 7-passenger touring cars were used to transport visitors up the Auto Road until about 1938. While you’re at the Auto Road, take a moment to explore the Red Barn Museum where you can see this famous car along with other historic vehicles used to transport visitors to the summit.

Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

2018 marks 80 years of service for the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway! Stay tuned for information about celebratory events in June and December!

Mount Washington Cog Railway

This historic train to the summit of Mount Washington marks the 10 year anniversary of introducing Wajo Nanatasis (Abenaki for mountain hummingbird), the first biodiesel locomotive added to the repertoire. Since then, 7 more biodiesel locomotives have been added to the fleet. Big things are in store for the Cog as they celebrate their 150th anniversary in 2019.

Thayers Inn-Littleton

This historic hotel in Littleton is celebrating 175 years this year! Over the years, Thayers has been host to Presidents, politicians, movie stars, and other notable dignitaries. While you’re in Littleton, stop in for a bite to eat, or spend the night and make your own historic memories.

Carlson’s Lodge-Twin Mountain

In October, this family owned and operated hotel will be celebrating 45 years in operation. Built by Carl Carlson himself, this Swedish inspired lodge will make you feel at home while you stay and play in the White Mountains.

Allegory Inn-Twin Mountain

The Allegory Inn will be celebrating their grand-reopening this year as it begins its journey under new owners, a new name, and other exciting new changes along the way.

Potato Barn Antiques-Northumberland

Say “Happy Birthday” to the Potato Barn, as it turns 30 on Mary 1 st . This family run antiques shop specializes in vintage clothes and accessories, costume jewelry, lamps and lighting fixtures, and an array of other items for antique collectors and browsers.

Purple Tomato Farmers Market-Lincoln

Happy Anniversary to the Purple Tomato! They are celebrating 5 years of bringing local, specialty food, delicious sandwich creations, fresh seafood, and local baked good to the White Mountains. They also offer wine tastings and samplings of local treats.
