CONWAY — Conway Scenic Railroad is set to host its 44th Railfans’ Weekend on Sept. 1-2, with Valley Trains, the Notch Train, extra trains and special demos on Saturday, along with a “Railroadiana” Flea Market, and collectors’ displays.
On Sunday, in addition to the regular Valley Train schedule, there will be a special train from North Conway to the Whitefield Diamond and the famous ball signal there.
The Whitefield ball signal stands as the last remaining signal in of its type in the United States in its original location.
The North Conway Model Railroad Club display also will be open for viewing and is free to the public.
Housed in the Railroad’s historic Freight House, the club maintains an exhibit that’s the envy of many other clubs around the country.
The complexity and details of its displays give visitors a fascinating look at what the area looked like over 100 years ago.
There also will be a free Saturday evening photo session in the rail yard, coordinated by professional photographers. The public is invited to participate.
