Ride to the Sky — Monday and Thursday, June 11 and 14

Coinciding with Laconia Motorcycle Week, the Mt. Washington Auto Road will host its annual Ride to the Sky events where motorcycles rule the road. Arrive before 10:00 AM and your motorcycle passenger rides for free! Motorcycles are welcome on the Auto Road every day of the season, but for these two days, it’s motorcycles only. Guided van tours are offered both days, so if you’re not a two-wheel traveler, we’ll do the driving so you can enjoy the views.

Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race — Saturday, June 16

Over 1,300 runners will test themselves in this legendary, all-uphill road race, drawing athletes from across New England, throughout the U.S., and from countries as close as Canada and as far away as Kenya. Spectators are encouraged to come cheer on the runners from the start/base area and can walk up the Auto Road prior to the start to view the racers on course. A limited number of on-mountain spectator tickets will also be sold on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 7:00 AM in the base lodge. Those spectators will be transported up the Auto Road at 8:00 AM in designated spectator vans. The Auto Road will reopen for regular traffic at approximately 1:30 PM after the conclusion of the race.

The Mount Washington Road Race has been sponsored annually by Northeast Delta Dental since 2001. During that time, the strong partnership between Northeast Delta Dental and the Mt. Washington Auto Road, bolstered by the Auto Road’s ongoing commitment to local communities, has resulted in annual donations totaling over $105,000 to Coos County Family Health Services.

Sunrise Drive — Sunday, June 24

The Mt. Washington Auto Road opens early on three Sundays every summer, allowing guests to drive themselves to the summit of Mount Washington to view the sunrise from the highest peak in the Northeast. On June 24 the road opens at 3:30 AM for a 5:01 AM sunrise. The following two sunrise drives will be held on July 29 (4:00 AM opening) and August 26 (4:30 AM opening).

The Great Race — Tuesday, June 26

The Mt. Washington Auto Road will host a lunch stop on the 2018 Hemmings Motor News Great Race, the world’s premiere old car rally, with the first car rolling into the base area of the Auto Road starting at 12:15 PM. In total, the participants in the event will cover more than 2,300 miles in 9 days, starting at the Pierce Arrow Museum in Buffalo, New York on June 23, and finishing on July 1 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Each stop on the Great Race is free to the public, and spectators will be able to visit with the participants and to look at the cars for several hours while they’re parked at the base area. It’s common for kids to climb in the cars for a first-hand look, so this is an exciting event for families and car-buffs alike.

NH ATV Day — Saturday, June 30

This popular event is sponsored by the NH ATV Club, and know as the “Gerry Pomerleau Memorial Ride” in recognition of one of the club’s outstanding members, and the founder of this annual ride back in 2000. In fact, this event is so popular that all 1,200 tickets have been sold out since January when they went on sale. The road will be open to ATVs only, but guided tours will be available all day in our tour vans. No ATV tickets will be sold on the day of the event, and tickets for the 2019 NH ATV Day will go on sale in January 2019. Check our website for details, as those tickets will likely sell out in just a few days.

The family-owned Mount Washington Summit Road Company was formed in 1859 and completed the road to the summit of Mount Washington in 1861. The Mt. Washington Carriage Road, now called the Mt. Washington Auto Road, has the long-held distinction of being America’s oldest man-made attraction. Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, opened in 1994, is one of New Hampshire’s premier Nordic ski areas, with 45 kilometers of trails for skiing, snowshoeing and fatbiking. During the summer months, the Outdoor Center focuses on human-powered outdoor activities including kayaking, biking, hiking and trail running.
