Appalachian Mountain Club to Host New Free Summer Concert Series at Highland Center

Bretton Woods, NH — The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) has created the new Lynda Cohen Performing Arts Series, which will offer two free concerts this summer. Presenting the musical acts Beg, Steal or Borrow and Low Lily, both concerts will be hosted at the AMC Highland Center, located in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. Concerts are open to the public and preregistration for attendees is encouraged.

Mount Washington, NH -- The Mount Washington Cog Railway recently dedicated a $3.3 mil. maintenance facility designed to bring cutting-edge technology to the historic railroad, in operation since 1869. Named in honor of Johnny Suitor, the Railway’s longtime shop foreman, the facility was built for “The Cog’s” team of master mechanics, welders and fabricators to maintain and grow their fleet of nine biodiesel locomotives. With its new state-of-the-art facility, tools, and technologies, The Cog plans to attract the future workforce needed to continue delivering generations of tourists to the summit of Mount Washington.

Kim Dobson Wins 6th Title in the 60th Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race

Pinkham Notch, NH — Kim Dobson, 37, of Eagle, CO, ran away from the field to win the Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race in a time of 1:11:16. It is Dobson’s sixth win in six tries. Ashley Brasovan, 30, of Golden, CO, took an early lead out of the gates and pushed the pace until being passed and dropped by Dobson around the 1.5 mile mark. Dobson’s lead at the halfway mark was around a minute over Brasovan. By the five mile mark Dobson’s lead was insurmountable, and she continued to pull away until the end. Brasovan held off a late surge from Samantha Diaz, 29, of Jackson, WY, to take second place in a time of 1:14:28. Diaz finished strong with a time of 1:15:24 for third place.

Pinkham Notch, NH — The 60th Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race came to a conclusion today with the running of the men’s division. There was no surprise when Joseph Gray, 37, of Colorado Springs, CO, a four time winner of Mt. Washington and the reigning World Mountain Running Champion, started in the lead at the sunny and pleasant base and did nothing but increase his lead all the way to the foggy, cold, and wind swept finish. Gray’s lead was a minute by the halfway mark, and he more than doubled the lead in the second half of the race. Gray finished in a time of 1:01:40 and has won the race the last five times he has entered. When asked what keeps him motivated, Gray replied, “It’s all about the personal challenge. Whether you finish first, middle pack, or last, in running you are always challenging yourself.” Gray rose to the challenge on this day.

60th Northeast Delta Dental  Mount Washington Road Race: Proceeds to Benefit Coös County  Family Health Services

Pinkham Notch, NH — The Northeast Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race organizers are hoping that 2021 race proceeds and fund raising will allow for a larger than normal contribution to Coös County Family Health Services, the primary beneficiary of non-profit donations given by sponsors and the Mt. Washington Auto Road. The goal is to raise at least $25,000 in 2021. As a result of the 2020 Mt. Washington Road Race being cancelled, the Coös County Family Health Services (CCFHS) donation was smaller than usual. Thanks to the sponsorship support of Northeast Delta Dental, a donation was still able to be made in 2020 to Coös County Family Dental which provides dental care to the surrounding area.
