Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race Raises Much-Needed Funds For Local Health Services

Pinkham Notch, NH — The annual Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race has a long history, and affects its participants, organizers and local residents in many different ways. For some of the world’s top athletes, this grueling, all-uphill race is a chance to either beat the course record or their personal best time. For other recreational runners, it’s a landmark test of their endurance and stamina, where simply finishing the race may be a lifelong goal. For the partnership that organizes the event—the Mt. Washington Auto Road and Northeast Delta Dental—it’s a chance to give back to the local community through a sizable annual donation to Coos County Family Health Services (CCFHS). For local residents in need of affordable, professional dental care, it’s a godsend.

This year’s race was held on June 16th under clear skies and light winds, with over 1,100 runners from around the globe taking part in the 58th annual hillclimb on the legendary Mt. Washington Auto Road. Even in the best of conditions, the 7.6 mile race is a test for any athlete, as the Auto Road rises over 4,700 vertical feet on its twisting course to the summit.

The Mount Washington Road Race has been sponsored annually by Northeast Delta Dental since 2001. During that time, their strong partnership with the Mt. Washington Auto Road, bolstered by the Auto Road’s ongoing commitment to local communities, has resulted in annual donations totaling over $125,000 to CCFHS. For 2018, CCFHS received $19,062 to help provide dental services to families in the North Country

“The Mt. Washington Auto Road and Northeast Delta Dental have been remarkable partners,” says Ken Gordon, Chief Executive Officer of CCFHS. “Their support has helped us to purchase new equipment for our dental clinic, and allowed us to establish a small program to help with the cost of providing dentures. Their support has been instrumental to our work, and has made a real difference in the lives of many local residents.”

CCFHS has been helping to provide families with affordable health care since 1974, and has grown to become one of the largest rural Federally Qualified Health Centers in northern New England. Among their notable accomplishments, CCFHS has a long history of sponsoring school-based dental clinics for area children, and recently expanded their scope of dental services by opening Coos County Family Dental in Berlin. Loretta Morrissette, CCFHS Dental Programs Manager, commented, “We’ll use the proceeds from the event to support our dental office in downtown Berlin—a full service dental clinic open to everyone in the community, offering care on a reduced-fee basis for those with modest incomes.”

Northeast Delta Dental and the Mt. Washington Auto Road proudly support the CCFHS mission to provide medical and dental care to local communities, and particularly to its patients without insurance or with limited ability to pay for care. The ongoing partnership between the companies will mean that the 2019 Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race is on track to raise much-needed funds for CCFHS, continuing to help provide dental care to families throughout Coos County.

“We are proud to have supported the Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race for nearly two decades, attracting thousands of people of all ages to our beautiful state,” said Jennifer McGrath, Assistant Treasurer of the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation. “Our partnership with the Mt. Washington Auto Road allows us to work together and continue efforts to improve the oral health of the citizens in the North Country.”
