THE PURPLE TOMATO ACHIEVES CERTIFIED LOCAL STATUS Lincoln restaurant now one of four in state certified at Gold Level
Lincoln, NH, January 31, 2019: The Purple Tomato Market, located at 78 Main St, Lincoln, NH, is owned by Lincoln native Jim Champagne and his wife, Susan, who left successful careers in information technology with a business plan to establish a food venue which would source locally and utilize area businesses and services in order to enhance the local economy. They reached out to the agricultural community and source most of their meat and produce from area farms. Local preserves, maple products and other artisan foods are featured, and the Champagnes call upon their business experience to mentor many of the owners of small businesses supplying the Purple Tomato.
The Certified Local designation by the New Hampshire Farm to Restaurant Connection is attained by achieving a high score on a rigorous and detailed point system which grades the use and promotion of local agricultural products. Over twenty New Hampshire restaurants have achieved this certification, and currently eighteen continue to maintain this designation. The Purple Tomato is only the fourth to certified at the Gold Level. Their support of local farmers and vendors strengthens the local economy, sustains regional farms and helps maintain open spaces while ensuring continuation of New Hampshire’s rural heritage.
The New Hampshire Farm to Restaurant Connection, nhfarmtorestaurant.com, is an all volunteer not for profit committee within New Hampshire Made, nhmade.com, promoting New Hampshire farms and food producers.
