TAMWORTH VILLAGE, NH, MARCH 24, 2025 -- On Saturday, April 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth begins a new gardening series: From Landscape to Foodscape. Throughout the series, participants learn how to cultivate resilience against rising prices at the grocery store by turning outdoor spaces into a source of healthy, homegrown food. Whether a sprawling backyard, a front lawn, or a small deck, this series shares ways to incorporate nutritious fruits, vegetables, and herbs into any landscape.
The first topic in the series is Introduction to Foodscaping. Participants in this initial session are encouraged to reimagine their landscape as a foodscape — using edible plants to create new yard designs. Each idea and strategy shared will provide benefits, such as increased biodiversity, self-produced food, reduced maintenance inputs, and soil and water conservation. Free for members, $5 suggested donation for non-members. For ages 16 plus, ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Preregistration is appreciated; walk-ins are welcome.
Sessions take place one Saturday each month from April to October. The series follows the natural progression of gardening from ground and planter prep to plant selection, then on to food preservation and pantry stocking for next winter.
“We understand people are becoming more concerned about covering their grocery bills. We hope these topics address some of those worries and will inspire people to cultivate what they can, no matter the size of their available outdoor space,” said Remick Executive Director Cara Sutherland.
