TAMWORTH, NH, September 23, 2026 — Something spooky—and historical—is brewing this fall in the unsuspecting village of Tamworth. Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm is thrilled to announce the return of Haunted History with the Drs. Remick: Eerie Medicine & Spooky Tales, a spine-chilling fall tour experience on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays at 2:00 and 6:00 p.m., October 1–31 (no evening tour on Saturday, October 31: Halloween).


If you like your history laced with a dose of authentic fright, this is your opportunity for a unique October outing. Guests will join a costumed guide for a journey through the preserved medical offices within the stately Captain Enoch Remick House, five distinct rooms once used by two generations of father-and-son country doctors, Dr. Edwin Remick and Dr. Edwin C. Remick, who served the local community for a combined 99 years.

 

Through the microscope of medical history, participants will uncover a surprisingly spooky blend of grim monster tales, curious medical practices, and eerie history. Themes include:


  • Mary Shelley, Frankenstein & Medical Advancements: Explore the fascinating science and medical discoveries that inspired one of literature’s most enduring monsters.
  • Vampirism & Communicable Diseases: Discover the surprisingly scientific, historical connections between vampire lore and the real-world spread of disease.
  • Kooky Concoctions & Medical Cannibalism: Take a closer look at some truly bizarre remedies and medical practices of New England's past.
  • Dental Horrors & Creepy Equipment: Meet the historical tools of the trade and learn why a trip to the dentist used to be a genuinely frightening experience.
  • Grim Procedures & Eerie Tales: Hear unsettling, real-life stories from the two country doctors who practiced medicine on the Remick farmstead from 1904–1993.
    

"For the second year, we are linking our important country doctor story with the spooky spirit of October," said program manager James Cruickshank. "This tour offers an interesting, yet chilling, look at societal beliefs and medical practices of the past and how they impacted people, popular culture, and medicine, all within a historical medical setting."


Registration & Event Details:

  • Admission: $10 for the general public; $5 for qualifying membership levels.
  • Age Requirements: Ages 16 and over; participants under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Registration: Spaces are limited. Preregistration options include booking online, calling (603) 323-7591, emailing info@remickmuseum.org, or visiting the front desk in person (daytime tours only), at least 15 minutes before the start time. Evening tours require registration and payment the day before.
  • Check-in: Check-in is located in the museum store at 58 Cleveland Hill Rd., Tamworth, NH 03886. Walking to the historic house is necessary. Please call with accessibility questions.
  • What to Wear: Participants are welcome to dress in costume. The terrain of the museum grounds is variable; sturdy, comfortable walking footwear is highly recommended.
