Looking for things to do this fall in the Southern White Mountains? This one day fall itinerary contains plenty of ways for you to make your New Hampshire fall vacation dreams come true.
Starting off your day
What better way to start off your day than to get nearer to nature? Squam Lakes Natural Science Center can help you do so! Explore their live animal exhibit trail to learn about all sorts of animals including bears, mountain lions and more! Each animal exhibit features interactive learning kiosks that are intriguing for both children and adults alike. Make sure to check their calendar for any fall events, as they have a few exciting ones coming up! After visiting with the animals, consider a boat ride with Squam Lakes Natural Science Center’s Squam Cruises! Autumn may not seem like the best time to take a boat ride, but with the right layers, the fall breeze in your face will feel amazing along with views of the fall foliage reflected in the lake.
If you are looking for a more intimate boat ride, Experience Squam offers private tours on the lake for you to book. You can bring up to 12 people with you, or even your furry friend!
If you are interested in getting out onto Lake Winnipesaukee, you may want to reserve a spot on Mount Washington Cruises. They always have events going on, so make sure to check their calendar.
Please keep in mind that most of these boat tours will end early to mid-October. Reservations are highly recommended in advance for all three.
Lunchtime
In need of a midday refuel? Check out any of the restaurants in the Southern White Mountain area! If you are looking for a way to eat while you are enjoying all the fall views, a fall picnic may be the way to go! Next up on the list is a walk, so bring a bagged lunch and enjoy your lunch in the great outdoors.
Take a walk
Next up, we suggest taking a nice fall walk. There are so many different options for walks or hikes in the Southern White Mountains, but here are a few that we suggest!
If you are looking for a walk, Waukewan Highlands is a great option. There are multiple trails in the park area for you to explore as you take in the fall feels. Another great option would be the WOW and Winni trail, a paved path in Laconia, NH, that passes along the lake and is accessible for all. It is recommended that those using wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers do have assistance for some of the steeper sections of the trail.
If you are looking for a hike in the Southern White Mountains, a great option would be the Lockes Hill Trail. The Lockes Hill Trail is 1.8 miles long and relatively moderate. The trail features gorgeous views of Lake Winnipesaukee and has said to be very family friendly.
Dinner
After all the adventure, we are sure you are ready for a refuel. On of our favorite restaurants in the area is Hart’s Turkey Farm, a classic NH restaurant known for their delicious turkey.
Lodging
Staying the night? There are many different lodging options in the Southern White Mountains, but our top picks are The Margate and Mill Falls at the Lake.
