The Eastern White Mountains are the perfect place for fall exploration that leads to great memories. If you are looking for activities near the Mount Washington Valley this fall, this itinerary is for you! Start packing - adventure awaits.
Take a Fall Walk
One of our favorite ways to embrace fall is to take a hike! Champney Falls is a 3.3-mile trail that leads to 70 feet long Cascades in Albany, NH. The falls can be sort of slow in the dryer seasons, so keep that in mind when visiting. Make sure to pack the 10 Hiking Essentials with you and keep in mind that fall weather can sometimes be chilly and wet.
Take a Scenic Chairlift Ride
Looking to view the foliage from higher ground? The Cranmore Mountain Scenic Chairlift is the perfect place to do so! Hop on the chairlift and enjoy the views as you ride up towards the summit. Once you are there, enjoy the loop trail at the top or even stop inside the Meister Hut for an ice cream or a beverage. After all your summit adventures, hop back on the chairlift and head down, relishing in the foliage views as you descend.
Lunch
Our best recommendation for lunch on this fun-filled day is a picnic on top of Cranmore! The Meister Hut at the top of Cranmore offers a lunch menu and snacks, but you could also pack your own.
Visit an attraction
We all know that one of the biggest perks of fall is the gorgeous views. What better place to experience them than the highest peak in New England? Take a trip up the Mount Washington Auto Road to do so!
Bringing the whole family? A family favorite, visit the place where fantasy lives, Story Land. If you visit between September 20 - October 26 you can attend Happy Hauntings, to enjoy Halloween activities at the park!
Other major attractions in the area:
- Conway Scenic Railroad: Take a ride on a scenic railroad through Conway or Crawford Notch.
- Living Shores Aquarium: Right next door to Story Land, visit Living Shores Aquarium to see alligators, sting rays and more!
Partake in a fall event

At this event, running October 1st until the 31st, you can pay a visit to all the pumpkin people scattered around the towns of Jackson, Glen, Intervale and North Conway.

We recommend making your reservations for lodging beforehand, as the fall in the White Mountains is a very popular time.
